Bunions

How Bunions aren’t as bad as You Think

Bunions are bony bumps that develop at the joint of the big toe, causing the toes to turn inward and crowd again the other toes. The joint of the big toe gets large and prominent and can be very painful. Bunions are caused for a variety of reasons:
Bunions commonly start to form in early adulthood and as you get older they can become quite painful and swollen and may limit activity. In most cases supports or orthotics, along with the right shoes, can make a big difference and no further treatment is needed.
However, if treatment does not help and you continue to have chronic pain, surgery may be the best option for you. See a doctor for an exam and get some relief.
Of course, avoiding the repetitive use of the joint is important also. Corticosteroid injections may be used to decrease persistent pain and swelling and surgery may be an option if severe problems persist.
